Australian takes the helm at Newmont

An Australian who learnt about mining at Melbourne's Monash University will lead the world's biggest gold miner and potentially make a call over whether it continues to own several of Australia's biggest gold mines.
Newmont Goldcorp announced that Tom Palmer would succeed Gary Goldberg as chief executive starting in October.
