Aluminium industry says it should be on list of ‘critical minerals’
Bauxite, alumina and aluminium would be added to Australia’s list of “critical minerals” if the council representing big smelters such as Alcoa and Rio Tinto gets its way.
The Australian Aluminium Council (AAC) said even though Australia was a major producer of those three commodities and therefore did not have a shortage, they would be essential for delivering the infrastructure needed to achieve Australia’s emissions reduction targets.
