Why Ben Roberts-Smith’s appeal failed

Disgraced soldier Ben Roberts-Smith’s attempts to rely on operational reports from missions in Afghanistan to hide his involvement in war crimes failed because they often came from him and at times contradicted his own evidence at trial.

The three judges of the Full Federal Court on Friday unanimously ruled to dismiss Roberts-Smith’s appeal against an earlier finding that threw out his claim to have been defamed by reports he committed murder during deployments to Afghanistan.
