News Corp slams Google, Facebook; may close 60 papers
News Corp Australia blamed Google and Facebook for undermining the profitability of Australian media outlets, including 60 of the company's local newspapers that may publish for the last time next week.
The media group, which is controlled by the Murdoch family, said on Wednesday it would suspend print publication of the papers from April 9 while it determines if they are economically sustainable, including the Manly Daily and Wentworth Courier in Sydney, Bay Side Leader in Melbourne and Caboolture Herald in Queensland.
