Mediation has failed in the blockbuster defamation case between Lachlan Murdoch and news website Crikey, which may miss its scheduled March trial date after Mr Murdoch’s team filed a complex new statement of claim.

The case was set aside for a day-long mediation on Wednesday, but both sides were unable to come to an agreement.
