Radio, first introduced to Australia in 1923, was one of the most powerful tools for Australian feminism in the mid-20th century. It provided a platform for women to contribute to public discourse and normalised the presence of women’s voices in the public sphere, both literally and figuratively.

Enid Lyons and Dorothy Tangney both won seats in the 1943 election and so became the first women to be elected to the Commonwealth Parliament. Archives
