HESTA joins $1.4trn push for change at social media giants
Industry super fund HESTA is throwing its weight behind a global push to pressure Facebook, Twitter and Google to take responsibility for more swiftly removing violent and hateful content from their platforms in the wake of the Christchurch terrorist attacks.
HESTA, which manages $50 billion on behalf of healthcare industry workers, is joining a coalition that is being led out of New Zealand by the five government-owned pension funds. The broader group has swelled to 44 funds with a combined $1.4 trillion under their control, and includes the Church of England Pensions Board, West Yorkshire Pensions Fund and the Swedish national pensions fund API-4.
