The crack unit of big tech experts within Australia’s competition regulator is weeks away from a funding cliff and faces being disbanded as the Albanese government drags its heels on the digital competition regime the team was set up to oversee.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s digital platforms team once had more than 30 researchers, experts and lawyers with intimate knowledge of the influence and market power wielded by tech behemoths like Google, Amazon, Apple and Meta.
