$10m for 30 seconds: brands battle for Super Bowl spotlight

San Francisco | An unprecedented number of star-studded commercials will battle for attention during the Super Bowl airing on Fox in the United States on Sunday (Monday AED), as brands focus on getting laughs in a tough economy.

Big-name advertisers from Netflix to Google are paying as much as $US7 million ($10 million) for a 30-second spot during the big game, to try to capture the attention of the roughly 100 million viewers who tune in each year.
