Dubbo digger says foreign buyers want rare earths processed offshore

The Australian company running a rare earths metallisation factory in South Korea says it would only make sense to build such a plant in Australia if a magnet making industry were established nearby.

Australian Strategic Materials managing director Rowena Smith said she was keen to do more processing of critical minerals on Australian soil, but most customers for pure rare earths metals wanted the final stage of processing (metallisation) to occur close to their factories in Asia, Europe or the United States.
