The vitamin C effect: Blackmores to catch flu season boost
Key Points
- Morgan Stanley has a 12-month price target on Blackmores of $84.
- A particularly nasty flu season may prove a plus for the company.
- In hindsight, the company hired too many people during the boom times and is now having to strip put those extra costs.
A swarm of anxious shoppers buying vitamin C tablets and other health supplements to try to avoid getting the flu is providing a short-term bump for vitamins group Blackmores.
But it's not likely to be nearly enough to trigger a return to the euphoria of 2014 and 2015 when extraordinary demand from Chinese consumers, enamoured with big Australian vitamins brands and their ''clean and green'' image, fuelled a stratospheric jump in share the price to $220 by early 2016.
