Health insurers baulk at Labor pitch to expand maternity cover
Health insurers will have to increase funding for hospital-in-the-home programs, expand access to maternity cover and offer more contracts to regional hospitals under an Albanese government proposal designed to alleviate the financial pressures on the private hospital sector.
But insurers say the potential changes being considered by the Health Department could mean higher premiums, above the increases expected to be announced by the federal government within weeks.
