As the belly expands with age, the memory may shrink

Obesity is linked to a part of the brain that shrinks in the early phases of Alzheimer’s disease, a new Australian study claims.

The part, called the hippocampus, is responsible for memory and learning and is one of the few regions of the brain that normally continues to form new cells as people age. It is very sensitive to change and is often also the first area of the brain to be impacted by Alzheimer’s.
