Crown example suggests Star will lose licence but stay open

Hearings into the scandal-plagued Star wrapped this week and the gambling giant is almost certain to be found unfit to hold its Sydney casino licence, but like Crown Resorts, the NSW watchdog may give it a shot at redemption before forcing its doors closed.

Counsel assisting the inquiry Naomi Sharp, SC, will next week outline what she believes the consequences of Star’s alleged widespread misconduct – ranging from enabling money laundering, misleading regulators, operating a secret cash cage, and avoiding state taxes – should be following a gruelling two-month public inquiry.
