Robbie Cooke’s plan to bring his new team together for bonding, introspection and honest talk wasn’t going well. His chief financial officer was in tears, and several other women looked like they were about to start crying too.

Cooke, the 57-year-old chief executive of Star Entertainment Group, had hired a corporate coach to give himself a break from being boss – and everyone else the space to share what was on their minds.
