The Victorian government will introduce strict limits on how much money can be loaded into an individual poker machine and force punters to register to play under new laws designed to reduce gambling harm.

Gamblers will not be able to load more than $100 on a poker machine at a time and the spin rate of each game will slow by 40 per cent from next December, under a long-promised crackdown announced by Gaming Minister Melissa Horne on Tuesday.
