Olympian Grant Hackett’s rise from rock bottom to top 500 CEO
The three-time Olympic gold medallist has always been a long-term planner, and was mapping out a career in finance well before his illustrious swimming career came to an end.
Grant Hackett likes to remind people that although he was a professional swimmer for 13 years, he has worked in financial services for 17 years and been CEO of the retirement investment business Generation Life – centre of the ASX-listed Generation Development Group – for the past six.
“In my mind, I’ve moved on but the world hasn’t, which you kind of expect,” Hackett tells BOSS from the group’s Collins Street headquarters in Melbourne, where he also opens up about his difficult transition from Olympic champion to running an ASX top 500 business.
