Jennifer Nason started her 36-year career at JPMorgan in New York on the day of the 1987 sharemarket crash, so she knows a thing or two about financial collapses.

Through the crystal-clear windows of JPMorgan boss Jamie Dimon’s private dining room, you can see hundreds of Manhattan buildings, all reaching above each other like competing bidders on an old-fashioned trading floor.

This space on the 43rd floor was once the wood-panelled office of the late Bear Stearns chief executive Jimmy Cayne. JPMorgan bought the failed investment bank during the financial crisis and took control of the building.
