High Court knocks back insurers over pandemic payments

The High Court has knocked back an attempt by the Insurance Council of Australia to avoid paying out business interruption claims lodged during the COVID-19 pandemic, spurring law firms to launch class actions to resolve the drawn-out saga.

The High Court on Friday refused to grant special leave to appeal to the insurance sector, but the decision does not yet mean companies will pay out claims to thousands of businesses that have applied.
