Barrenjoey’s sacking of Greens candidate tests its values

The investment bank’s decision to dismiss an employee who ran for the Greens in a local election questions a culture encouraging staff to pursue outside interests.

Barrenjoey’s dismissal of information technology specialist Asm Mahbub Morshed has raised questions about the investment bank’s values, particularly its championing of equality of ideas and respect for different beliefs.

These values, many of which are detailed in a 17-page presentation dubbed “Staff stuff that Matters!” encouraged employees to “get involved in interests” outside the firm, so long as they do not conflict with company principles.
