ANZ has a lot at stake as ASIC crawls over its bond trading activities
The rumblings in the market are that the investigation is making those on all levels of the bank uneasy. If it isn’t, it really should be.
Jonathan ShapiroSenior reporterThere was a notable absentee when the Australian government priced its first-ever green bond issue – a landmark moment for local fixed income markets. A panel of banks was appointed to manage the $7 billion sale, but ANZ was not among them.
Whether it missed out on the gig because of the ongoing probe into its role in last April’s $14 billion bond issue was neither confirmed nor denied by the Australian Office of Financial Management, which handles the government’s debt raisings.
