When BP chief economist Spencer Dale took the stage on day two of The Australian Financial Review National Energy Summit in Sydney on Thursday, he had a clear message: "The world is watching."

While countries the world over are grappling with the challenges of a rapid influx of renewable energy, Australia has dived in deeper and faster than any other developed economy.
