The world's biggest battery is about to get 50 per cent bigger, meaning it will be able to store more energy that can be used to stabilise the grid at times of stress and volatility, when demand and supply are out of balance.
The Hornsdale wind farm storage battery was one of the major planks of a $550 million energy plan in 2017 by former South Australian premier Jay Weatherill's Labor government to stabilise a fragile energy grid after a state-wide blackout in 2016.
