Public will back net zero ‘if you don’t throw people on scrapheap’
Australians will get behind net zero emissions by 2050 if the federal government provides more detail on how it is going to reach the commitment without too much economic pain, according to industry groups.
While there are fracture lines in the Coalition over the net zero pledge ahead of international climate talks in Glasgow in November, the public will back the target if they are shown the way and are reassured they “won’t be left on the scrapheap”.
