Gas producers wary of plan to reserve domestic supplies

Gas producers say any plan forcing them to set aside supplies for the domestic market would do little to increase supply for years and could deter investment, amid speculation the Coalition is set to announce such a policy.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton is expected to announce a gas policy in his budget reply on Thursday, as he faces internal pressure for a short-term response to high-energy prices, given his plan to build nuclear power plants will take a minimum of 10 years.
