With time running short, Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen sounds increasingly frustrated with the Greens’ game of climate chicken over the safeguard mechanism aimed at reducing emissions from many of Australia’s biggest companies.

This scheme is the most concrete of the federal government’s plans to reduce emissions as it struggles to juggle soaring power prices compounded by a threatened shortage of gas looming in the next few years.
