Business urges Tasmania to abandon ‘battery of the nation’ plan
Big business has encouraged the Tasmanian government to abandon plans to export its future renewable energy reserves to mainland Australia and instead grow local jobs by becoming a clean manufacturing powerhouse.
Tasmania’s “battery of the nation” strategy wants renewables to generate 200 per cent of the island’s demand by 2040, with the excess power sold to the mainland via the proposed $3.5 billion “Marinus Link” cable under Bass Strait.
