The proposed $3.5 billion second electricity interconnector between Tasmania and Victoria looks set to go ahead under fast-tracked reforms to regulatory rules that would spread the cost more widely to customers including those in NSW.
Bess Clark, general manager for the Marinus Link project at TasNetworks, said the national infrastructure nature of the project, which will primarily ship renewable energy from Tasmania to the mainland, meant the fairest means of recovering its cost should be a shared charge for users across the National Electricity Market.
