Fewer than 5 per cent of homes with rooftop solar panels also have battery storage which means those households could be missing out on up to $800 in annual savings, new research suggests.

Australia has more than 3.2 million rooftop systems, according to the Clean Energy Regulator, which means one in three suitable homes have solar panels.
