Barossa case ‘confected’ by green activists, Santos argues
A barrister acting for Santos has told the Federal Court that a Tiwi Islander’s legal challenge to the construction of a pipeline in the Timor Sea has been “confected” by the Environmental Defenders Office in a bid to block the gas producer’s $5.8 billion project.
Vanessa Whittaker SC took aim at the EDO’s motives in the case, which will determine whether Santos needs to redo its environment plan for the pipeline, an integral part of the Barossa project. She argued that two expert academic witnesses used by the EDO in the case, brought by Jikilaruwu man Simon Munkara, were neither objective nor independent.
