London | Fortescue has signed a deal to sell battery performance software to Jaguar Land Rover for its electric vehicle fleet, a milestone in Andrew Forrest’s plan to turn his company into a global energy conglomerate serving non-Fortescue customers.

The deal involves a Fortescue unit formerly known as Williams, which was best known as a Formula 1 race car outfit. Dr Forrest bought it two years ago to design truck batteries and “gravity trains” for his mine sites.
