Two interactions with John Elliott stand out during the four-year period in the booming 1980s when Chanticleer covered his corporate buccaneering in Australia and the United Kingdom.

The first was in Melbourne in December 1983 when Elliott stood on the floor of the Melbourne stock exchange to orchestrate the bold takeover of Carlton & United Breweries.
