The good news from profit season’s twilight zone
Interest rates and higher prices do not appear to be hurting the consumer at this stage – and therein lies the rub.
Reserve Bank governor Philip Lowe and his fellow economists in Martin Place might have reached the halfway point of the August profit season with decidedly mixed feelings.
The good news? Interest rates and higher prices do not appear to be hurting the consumer at this stage, setting the economy up for relatively strong growth for the remainder of calendar 2022.
