Suncorp looks inside for steady-hand CEO

New Suncorp chief executive Steve Johnston is confident he’s ready to make the jump from wingman for chief pilot. But he’s flying into some serious headwinds.

It would be easy to scoff at yet another ASX company conducting a global search for a new CEO and appointing a bloke – and yes, it usually is a bloke – down the corridor.

But in the case of Suncorp, which on Monday formally anointed 14-year company veteran and acting chief executive Steve Johnston as its new boss, this really is something different.
