Six mega funds will tower over super
A mega super fund was born this week when QSuper and Sunsuper became the $207 billion Australian Retirement Trust. It’s a taste of things to come as consolidation creates more super giants.
The completion this week of the merger of Sunsuper and QSuper to create the $207 billion Australian Retirement Trust provides a reminder of how quickly Australia is moving to a superannuation sector dominated by half a dozen mega funds.
It also provides an opportunity to remind super fund trustees of the tricky governance challenges that will inevitably arise when managing integrated financial services conglomerates.
