Meet the Aussie who built a Wall Street infrastructure giant

Stonepeak founder Mike Dorrell learnt the infrastructure game at Macquarie and Blackstone before striking out on his own. Now he’s readying for a new infrastructure boom.

For all Mike Dorrell knew, they could have been speaking another language.

It was 2001, and Dorrell had recently arrived in New York as part of Macquarie’s fledgling US infrastructure business. He was just three years out of university, and after a stint in M&A at Macquarie headquarters in Sydney, he was excited to join the infrastructure division, which had become the flag bearer of the “silver doughnut” under the leadership of Nicholas Moore.
