If you want to understand why BHP is back in talks with copper pure play OZ Minerals about a possible takeover, then look no further than the $18.4 billion offer that Canadian giant Brookfield and US private equity group EIG has placed on the table for Origin Energy.

Brookfield wants to spend $US20 billion building out renewable energy projects between now and 2030 to turbocharge Australia’s energy transition.
