ESG funds are booming - but doubts linger

Funds invested based on environment, social and governance principles are beating their benchmarks. But there are doubts about how 'green' some really are.

When Matt Patsky first approached American companies 40 years ago over environment, social and governance (ESG) issues, he was accused of being a "leftist Marxist trying to destroy their companies".

"Now, most companies are actually incredibly receptive to the point where we have companies that have us organise sessions where we invite all of the ESG players around the US to participate in day-long sessions," Patsky says.
