Bekier won’t be The Star’s last casualty

Matt Bekier’s decision to take accountability for Star’s risk and governance failures is unlikely to stop regulators demanding a much broader overhaul of the company. 

It wasn’t the dummy spit that ended Matt Bekier’s time as chief executive of The Star Entertainment Group, but what came after.

The NSW inquiry into Star’s suitability as a casino licensee stepped up a notch early last week when it heard how poorly Bekier had reacted in 2018 to an independent KPMG report into the company’s systems and processes for managing anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing systems risks.
