Nvidia is banking on a big shift in AI. That’s not good for your job

The chipmaker’s numbers are breathtakingly good. But to justify its customers’ huge spending, artificial intelligence must start killing careers.

It’s less than three years since Nvidia was a specialist computer chipmaker that nobody paid a whole lot of attention to. Now it’s probably the most important company on global sharemarkets – and doesn’t it know it.

The company’s earnings calls have become hour-long hype and brag sessions. In these, chief executive and founder Jensen Huang and chief financial officer Colette Kress prosecute the case that the company sits almost alone at the centre of the artificial intelligence revolution.
