Australia’s software sector is better than we realise. And it’s not just start-ups – there are proven and profitable software companies operating globally out of Australia, out of the limelight and away from the ASX boards.

Billionaire private equity investor Jean Eric Salata has bought three of them in the past year – school-parent communications and fees platform Compass Education; gaming company Mighty Build and Test; and human-resources software group PageUp. And now he has his eyes on a fourth.
