Incoming Virgin Australia chief executive Paul Scurrah says he has "some ideas" about new international routes where he could take the country's second-largest airline but said that will not come at the expense of market share where it already competes.

The highly credentialled transport and logistics veteran was announced as the successor to outgoing CEO John Borghetti on Wednesday, after an extensive global search by the airline's board.
