COPS WARN OF INTRICATE ATO SCAM
Police are warning people of an intricate scam which robbed a victim of a significant amount of money by a person posing as a police officer in Clare last month.
A Clare local received a call from a person stating they were from the ATO, saying the victim had multiple fraudulent bank accounts, before threatening to seize their assets.
The resident did not believe the caller but disclosed they were from Clare during the call.
A short time later, the victim answered a call from a phone number the same as the Clare Police Station. The caller, posing as a police officer, convinced the victim to withdraw money from their bank account and deposit it into another fraudulent account. The victim lost a significant amount of money which was likely transferred to an overseas account and is near impossible to recover.
Police are warning people to be wary of scammers pretending to be members of the ATO and police, and say government agencies would never ask for payments or bank transactions over the phone.
“SAPOL are also seeing a recent trend in relation to ATO scams, with the scammers moving away from gift cards, and actually providing BSB and account details for victims to transfer money into,” a police spokesman said.

CAR DRIVES INTO CHIRO CLINIC AT ROSTREVOR
Business owners are relieved no one was injured after a car crashed into a chiropractor at Rostrevor on Monday morning.
A woman believed to have put her foot on the accelerator instead of the brake drove into the front window of Connective Chiropractic on St Bernards Road just before 12pm Tuesday.
No-one was injured in the incident.
Business owner Susan Logan, whose husband Dr Bill Logan is the practice chiropractor, said she was relieved no one was injured.
“It could’ve been much worse,” Ms Logan said.
She said the clinic does not open until 3pm on a Tuesday.
“And that was lucky, because we usually have patients sitting up against the window (where the car crashed).”
Police and State Emergency Services rushed to the scene where they will remain while the front of the shop is boarded up.
Ms Logan said they would continue to trade so long as it was safe to do so.
“We will just keep on keeping on.”
MASSIVE OIL SPILL CREATES CHAOS
Several cars lost control on Tapleys Hill Road after about 100 litres of oil was spilt on the bitumen.
Multiple cars were reported as having lost control southbound on Tapleys Hill Road, near Grange Road in Fulham Gardens, before 9.30am on Tuesday.
Police said the “significant” spill of motor oil had left a large number of cars unable to move after their tyres and breaks were covered in oil.
Others slid off the road and lost control.
One collision was reported to Henley Beach Police Station.
Traffic had to be diverted around the intersection for several hours while police blocked off the area and the oil spill was cleaned.
It is not yet known what caused the spill.

A man has been charged following an investigation into a fatal crash in the state’s Mid North last year.

The driver of the car, a 30-year-old Seaton woman, died at the scene.

BITUMEN BANDITS TARGET THE REGIONS
Residents are being warned of dodgy tradies, known as the bitumen bandits, who have targeted regional South Australia as well as other outer suburbs in recent months.
The Consumer Business Services Commissioner Dini Soulio said since the start of the year there have been eight reports of consumers that were approached by people presenting as tradies, and offering to do unsolicited bitumen work.
The reports have come from both residential and commercial property owners particularly in the north including Nuriootpa, Pooraka, Edinburgh North, One Tree Hill, Moppa, Ramco, Clare, as well as Lonsdale.
“The present indications are that it may be two or three separate groups of tradies preying consumers, primarily in regional areas and outer suburbs,” Mr Soulio said.
The tradies go door-to-door and offer to do bitumen work for a discounted price.
“They’re not licensed and will often demand payment well in excess of what they had originally quoted. Also, more often than not the work is substandard and will need to be redone.”
Mr Soulio urged people to report anyone offering to do unsolicited work.
“At least two consumers have paid a total of more than $20,000 to these unscrupulous operators, which demonstrates just how easy it is to be taken in by these people.”

‘DRUNK’ MAN ARRESTED AFTER CRASH AND BURNOUTS
A man who crashed his ute after doing burnouts has been caught at nearly four times the legal alcohol limit, after being picked up by a driver also drink-driving at Nairne, police say.
The man crashed his Ford ute on Sydney Road at about 6.30pm on Sunday night after allegedly doing burnouts near a football oval.
The ute was left undriveable after it crashed into a drain.
The driver of the ute was picked up by a friend in a Holden ute, before the pair were stopped by police on Prescott Street at Mount Torrens shortly after.
The Ford driver, a 22-year-old Mount Torrens man, returned an alleged alcohol reading of 0.180, almost four times the legal limit.
His mate and Holden ute driver, a 25-year-old Mount Pleasant man, allegedly blew just over the legal limit at 0.052.
It was an expensive pick-up for the man, who was issued an $847 fine and four demerit points.
The Ford driver was reported for misuse of a motor vehicle and drink driving.
He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date and was issued with an immediate 12 month loss of licence.

Both cars had to be towed from the scene.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
SECOND FIRE AT HOUSE IN A WEEK
A Glandore home has been hit with fire for the second time in a week – this time causing extensive damage.

No one was home at the time of the fire.
Fire cause investigators believe the fire to be suspicious.
A 41-year-old man was arrested for arson after another fire at the same property late on Wednesday night.
