FRIDAY, JULY 17

WOMAN KILLED IN EDINBURGH CRASH

A woman has died in a head-on collision at Edinburgh.

Police and emergency services were called to Heaslip Road after reports of a crash between a Kia and Holden just after 6pm on Friday.

The driver and sole occupant of the Kia, a 31-year-old woman from Brahma Lodge, died at the scene.

The 20-year-old Angle Vale woman driving the Holden, who was also a sole occupant, was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital and treated for injuries, which are not life threatening.

Heaslip Road was closed in both directions between Edinburgh Road and Penfield Road while Major Crash investigators examined the scene

The woman’s life is the 54th lost on SA roads compared to 65 at the same time last year.

ATTEMPTED ATM THEFT IN GOOLWA

Police are searching for a suspect who attempted to steal money from an ATM at Goolwa.

Security saw a man damaging an ATM with a crow bar on Hutchinson Street just before 12pm on Friday.

The man fled on foot and is described as wearing black tracksuit pants, a black hooded top and a mask. No money was taken from the ATM. Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

DRUGS FOUND AT RENMARK

A man has been reported after drugs and equipment was allegedly found as his Riverland home after a tip-off from the public.

Police searched the Renmark home for drugs on Monday.

It will be alleged officers uncovered evidence of drug trafficking including cash, digital scales, plastic deal bags and a quantity of dried cannabis.

A cannabis plant growing in the yard and dismantled prescribed equipment was also found, police say.

The 33-year-old occupant was reported for trafficking a controlled drug and possessing prescribed equipment.

He was issued a cannabis expiation notice for drug related offences. He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

TEACHER ON CHILD EXPLOITATION CHARGES

A contract teacher from Adelaide’s western suburbs has been charged with child sex offences.

Harrison John Auger, 24, was arrested on Thursday and charged with two counts of aggravated possessing child exploitation material and one count of maintaining an unlawful sexual relationship with a child.

It is alleged the offences occurred between March 8 and July 16.

Auger appeared in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday and was remanded in custody to appear again next week.

A statement from the Education Department said the teacher was a temporary employee and was directed away from the workplace.

A spokesman said the teacher had worked at one school recently and the parents there will be notified.

WANTED MAN ‘SKIPS’ COVID CHECKPOINT

A Victorian man has been arrested at Bordertown after avoiding official coronavirus checkpoints this week.

Checks revealed there was a warrant out for his arrest in his home state for failing to appear in court on a separate matter, police say.

The man, 31, was fined $1000 for flouting border restrictions after he was found driving near Bordertown on Wednesday night.

He appeared in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on Thursday and was remanded in custody to appear again in August.

The arrest comes just a day after four Victorians stowaways were caught trying to cross the border in a freight train.

MAN ‘COUGHS’ ON POLICE OFFICER

A man has been arrested for allegedly refusing a breath test and coughing on a police officer, saying he might have coronavirus.

Police say the man, 30, of Clearview, was speeding in a black Nissan on Dyson Rd at Christies Beach about 1am on Friday.

He was pulled over and submitted a roadside breath test before being brought to the Christies Beach Police Station for further breath analysis.

Police allege he refused to do the test and then coughed in the face of the officer.

He is also accused of saying he might have coronavirus.

The 30-year-old was charged with assault and refusing to comply with a breath test.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon.

His black Nissan was impounded for 28 days and he lost his licence for 12 months.

WOMAN HURT IN MOANA CRASH

A woman is in intensive care after a head-on crash with a ute south of Adelaide.

The woman, 61, of Seaford Rise, was trapped in her Mazda sedan after colliding with a Toyota ute on Commercial Rd, near Dalkeith Rd, at Moana just before 9pm on Thursday.

She was eventually freed by MFS crews and rushed to the Flinders Medical Centre, where she remains in a serious condition with multiple injuries.

The driver of the ute, 28, of Seaford, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the Flinders Medical Centre for treatment.

A passenger in the ute was not hurt in the smash.

Police are investigating the crash and urge any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

THURSDAY, JULY 16

STABBING AT TWO WELLS

A man has been stabbed during an altercation at Two Wells, noth of Adelaide, this morning.

Emergency services were sent to Gameau Rd at about 4.15am in response to reports that a man had been stabbed.

They arrived at the scene to find a 38-year-old man with a stab wound to his back.

He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a serious condition.

DRINK DRIVER REPORTED AFTER MT GAMBIER CRASH

A man has lost his licence after he crashed his car while allegedly over the legal blood alcohol limit in Mount Gambier.

Police were called to a crash on the Jubilee Highway West, after a Mazda hit a stationary line-marking truck just after 3pm on Wednesday. T

The driver, a 64-year-old Mount Gambier man, was breath tested, allegedly returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.223 – more than four times over the legal blood alcohol limit of 0.05.

He was reported for drink driving and driving without due care.

His licence was disqualified for 12 months and his car was impounded for 28 days. He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date. No one was injured during the crash.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 15

FATAL CRASH AT SHE-OAK LOG

A two-year-old girl has died after the car she was travelling in crashed into the back of a parked truck north of Adelaide.

Emergency services were called to the Sturt Highway at Shea-Oak Log, just northeast of Gawler, about 10.45am on Wednesday.

MAN BASHED AT NOARLUNGA RAILWAY STATION

A man has been treated for facial injuries after he was assaulted by a group of six people demanding money at a southern suburbs railway station on Tuesday evening.

Police say the group approached the man, his female partner and his brother at the Noarlunga Railway Station just before 6pm.

The man was punched to the head, causing him to fall to the ground. His partner was also assaulted as she tried to intervene.

He was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre, where he was treated for facial fractures.

Police urge anyone who witnessed the assault to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

CARS DESTROYED IN SUSPICIOUS FIRE

Two cars have been destroyed by a suspicious fire in Adelaide's northeast.

Police and fire crews were called to Hambledon Road at Campbelltown after reports flames had engulfed a vehicle under a carport at a unit complex just before 10pm on Tuesday.

The blaze was extinguished by firefighters, but not before the white Hyundai Excel and gold Mazda Tribute was destroyed.

Crime Scene investigators examined the scene.

RARE BIKE STOLEN AT PAYNEHAM

A rare bike once used in Australian team pursuit competitions has been stolen from a Payneham storage shed.

Police say the custom green and gold Malvern Star bike was stolen from the shed on Payneham Rd between July 9 and July 11.

The bike has “Team 86” written on the top crossbar with a 16” front wheel and a 27” rear wheel.

It was previously used as an Australian team pursuit bike, police say.

A second bike with a charcoal grey Allan carbon fibre frame was also stolen from the shed.

YOUTH ARRESTED OVER CAR DAMAGE

A teenage boy who allegedly smashed a car window at Marden has been arrested.

Police were called to a fast food restaurant on Payneham Road after a member of the public reported seeing a male smash a car window with a brick just before 1.30am on Wednesday.

Police say they found a 17-year-old boy near a Nissan SUV with a smashed window and a rubbish bin from a car park which had been emptied into the car.

The Athelstone boy was arrested for illegal interference and property damage. He was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Youth Court at a later date.

TUESDAY, JULY 14

MEN THROW MOLOTOV INTO HOME

Two men on a dirt motorbike have thrown multiple molotov cocktails through the window of a southern suburbs home on Tuesday morning.

Police say two male suspects pulled up to the front of the home, on Chad St in Christie Downs, about 10.15am.

One of the men threw the cocktails at the house, which broke a window and caused minor damage before riding away.

The fire was quickly put out by an occupant in the house and there were no reported injuries.

Crime scene investigators and detectives attended the home to examine the scene.

WOODCROFT DELI ROBBED

Police are searching for a masked man who used a knife to rob a southern suburbs deli.

The suspect entered a deli on Investigator Drive at Woodcroft and threatened staff, demanding cash and cigarettes just before 1pm on Monday.

The man was wearing a dark grey hooded top and black trackpants. He fled on foot with a small amount of cash from the till and several packets of cigarettes.

Officers are searching the area. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

MAN ARRESTED AT GOLDEN GROVE

A man who approached three teenage girls and behaved indecently at Golden Grove has been arrested, police say.

It will be alleged the girls were walking along Atlantis Drive when a man approached them about 8.50pm on Saturday. After the incident he walked away.

Detectives from Northern District Criminal Investigation Branch arrested a 27-year-old from Modbury on Monday.

He was charged with gross indecency and was bailed to appear at Elizabeth Magistrates Court on August 31.

HOUSE FIRE AT BEVERLEY

An abandoned house has been damaged by fire at Beverley.

Police and fire crews were called to the property on Grange Road, near the intersection of Holbrooks Road, just after 1am on Tuesday.

Firefighters took five minutes to extinguish the blaze.

A 32-year-old woman who had been inside was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with smoke inhalation before she was discharged.

Fire Cause Investigators will inspect the scene.

Police are investigating reports that a man was seen leaving the house about the time of the fire.

‘DRUG’ DRIVER CAUGHT TWICE IN ONE NIGHT

A disqualified driver who was allegedly caught behind the well twice in one night has been arrested.

Police pulled over a Mercedes Benz sedan on Walker Street at Mount Barker about 1.30am on Tuesday for a mobile driver test.

The driver, a 37-year-old Christie Downs man, allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine and was given a direction not to drive for 24 hours while a sample was sent for forensic testing.

Checks revealed the man was also disqualified from driving. He was reported and the vehicle was secured at the side of the road.

About five minutes later, officers noticed the sedan had been moved. The car was then intercepted at the driver’s Christie Downs home, police say.

The man was arrested and charged with driving while disqualified and disobeying a driver direction.

He was bailed to appear in court at a later date. The vehicle was impounded for 28 days.

MONDAY, JULY 13

MAN CHARGED AFTER BUS INCIDENT IN GLENELG EAST

A man who allegedly damaged multiple vehicles while wearing only his underwear in Glenelg East last month has been charged with numerous offences.

Police were called to Diagonal Road and Brighton Road at Glenelg East around 7.30am on Thursday, June 18, after reports a man was running in and out of traffic, causing damage to a car and bus.

Police arrived at the scene to find the man had been detained by members of the public. A passenger on the bus filmed the incident. The 37-year-old Glenelg South man was detained by police and taken to the Flinders Medical Centre for mental health assessment, where he remained under a treatment order, before being released back into police custody. Police interviewed the man on Monday, and charged him with affray, disorderly behaviour, and four counts of property damage.

He has been bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court in August.

TRUCK CRASHES INTO TREES AT GLENUNGA

A truck crashed into two trees on a residential street in Adelaide's east this morning.

The truck driver – a 25-year-old man from Marden – was not injured in the smash.

A police spokeswoman said he crashed into two trees on Glenunga Ave, Glenunga, just after 6.40am on Monday.

One of the trees landed on a set of powerlines. SA Power Networks crews assessed the damage, while council workers removed one of the trees.

Police are investigating what led to the crash.

One local resident said he heard car horns, followed by a “screech of tyres and a huge thud”.

In November last year, a B-double truck driver followed his GPS on to Glenunga Ave before knocking down a tree and damaging a car.

RENEWED APPEAL FOR MISSING MAN

Police are renewing their appeal for assistance from the public to help locate wanted man Susen Sharma, who is in breach of intensive bail after cutting off his monitoring bracelet.

Sharma, 29, is wanted for breaching his intensive bail supervision order and has an active warrant for his arrest. Police say Sharma has not been seen since February, when he cut off his monitoring bracelet.

He is 180cm tall with a solid build, black hair and was last known to have a goatee beard.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Susen Sharma is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 131 444.

SERIOUS CRASH AT JAMESTOWN

Two men had to be cut free from a wreckage after their car crashed into a tree in the Mid North.

Emergency services were called to Od5 Road at Jamestown after reports a Ford ute had hit a tree about 9.20pm on Sunday.

The driver, a 30-year-old Jamestown man, and his passenger, a 36-year-old Jamestown man, were cut from the vehicle before they were taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious injuries.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

BRAHMA LODGE HOUSE SET ALIGHT

An abandoned house has been destroyed by a suspicious fire that caused $125,000 at Brahma Lodge.

Police and MFS crews were called to the empty property on Cross Keys Road after reports of a fire just after 6am om Monday.

Fourteen firefighters from three appliances responded to the blaze and extinguished the flames after 10 minutes.

Cross Keys Road was closed to southbound traffic while firefighters monitored the structure for hot spots in the ceiling.

Police are investigating.

SUNDAY, JULY 12

TWO MEN ARRESTED OVER VIOLENT HOME INVASION

Two men will face court on Monday after they were charged over a violent home invasion in Dover Gardens.

Just after 5pm on Saturday, two men – one allegedly armed with a knife – forced their way into a Folkestone Rd house and assaulted the teenage occupants.

The suspects fled before emergency services arrived.

A 16-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy were both taken to Flinders Medical Centre for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

On Sunday morning, police attended a house in Pasadena and arrested two men.

A 19-year-old Pasadena man was charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass, aggravated assault causing harm, and theft.

An 18-year-old Happy Valley man was charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass, aggravated causing harm and theft.

They were both refused police bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police say it was not a random attack.

PEDESTRIAN HIT IN CBD CRASH

An Adelaide Council worker has been struck in a CBD crash.

Patrols and emergency crews were called to Hindley St just after 8.30am on Sunday after a Holden sedan crashed into a parked car which then struck a pedestrian, pinning him between two cars.

Paramedics treated the 44-year-old from Ingle Farm at the scene before taking him to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Holden sedan was drug tested allegedly returned a positive result to cannabis and methamphetamine.

Police say the man also was not displaying ‘P’ plates and failed to have an interlock device fitted to his car after his Provisional licence issued late last year.

The 26-year-old from Ridgehaven has been reported for driving without due care, driving without an interlock device fitted and breaching his Provisional licence.

He will appear in court at a later date and may face drug driving charges pending the outcome of forensic analysis of his drug sample.

SafeWork SA are also investigating the incident.

FATAL CRASH ON THE YORKE PENINSULA

An elderly man has died in a car crash on the Yorke Peninsula.

Emergency services were called to Balgowan Rd, Balgowan, just after 5pm on Saturday after a car rolled.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle – an 87-year-old Balgowan man – died at the scene.

The road was closed for several hours while police investigated the circumstances of the incident.

The man’s death marked the 52nd life lost on SA roads this year, compared to 64 at the same time last year.

POLICE INVESTIGATING CAR FIRES

Police are investigating two deliberately-lit separate car fires in Adelaide's north and west in the early hours of this morning.

The first fire occurred in Lamont St at Croydon Park at about 1.30am.

Police and MFS crews were called after a Subaru sedan was found ablaze in a driveway.

Officers seized a jerry can at a neighbouring property.

Just after 2.30am, patrols and firefighters were sent to Digman Drive, Paralowie, in response to reports of a BMW sedan being alight in the street.

The sedan was destroyed.

Police ask anyone with information about either fire to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
