Speeding driver caught | Police issue more than 100 COVID fines

A motorist has been clocked at more than 100km/h over the speed limit at Kudla. Meanwhile, police have issued over 100 COVID breach fines since Thursday.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21

DRIVER CAUGHT 100KM/H OVER SPEED LIMIT

A speeding driver has been caught by police at more than 100km/h over the speed limit.

Just after 9.30pm on Friday night, police were conducting routine speed detection duties on Main North Road at Kudla when a silver Toyota sedan came flying past.

The driver was allegedly caught travelling at 196km/h in a 90km/h zone.

Police pulled the driver over a short distance away and conducted a drug and alcohol test.

The 26-year-old Elizabeth Downs man tested positive to methamphetamine.

He was issued with a driver detection notice to not drive again for 24 hours, and was reported for drug driving and excessive speed.

The car was impounded for 28 days and he will be summoned to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court at a later date.

CIRCUIT BREAKER COVIDIOTS

Police on Saturday said they had issued 163 expiation notices for COVID breaches to businesses and individuals between midnight on Thursday and midnight on Friday, with 60 including fines.

They urged South Australians to continue adhering to restrictions until they were lifted.

GRAIN TRUCK ROLLS AT BUCHFELDE

A truck carrying a large quantity of grain has rolled near Gawler River.

It was travelling down Two Wells Rd towards Angle Vale when it rolled on its side towards the edge of the road.

Emergency services were called to the scene to assist.

The driver had to be freed by CFS crews, but sustained no serious injuries.

The grain was cleared by the CFS heavy rescue team.

TWO IN HOSPITAL AFTER CRASH

Two men have been taken to hospital after their station wagon crashed into a fence at Novar Gardens.

Around 12.25am on Saturday morning, emergency services were called to James Melrose Rd near Glen Crt, after the Holden had crashed.

The driver, a 60-year-old Henley Beach South man was cut out of the vehicle by the MFS and was taken to hospital.

Both he and his passenger, a 30-year-old man, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police will interview that driver over numerous traffic offences at a later date.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ARREST

A man has been arrested following a domestic assault at Kilburn on Friday night.

At around 7pm, police responded to calls of an assault on Goodman Ave.

The 41-year-old female and victim of the assault was treated at the scene before being taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The 58-year old male from Kilburn was charged with assault causing harm. He is expected to be given police bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police encourage anyone experiencing domestic violence to contact them immediately for assistance.

RECYCLING FIRE AT DEEP CREEK

A rubbish fire threatened to destroy a recycling plant at Deep Creek overnight.

Firefighters from the MFS responded to calls of thick black smoke bellowing out of a recycling plant at around 11pm on Friday night.

About 80 firefighters, heavy moving machinery and several trucks were called-in to extinguish the blaze.

An estimated $200,000 worth of damage was caused to the facility, but it was saved from being destroyed.

The MFS has issued a smoke advice for the surrounding areas, asking local residents to close windows until it has passed.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20

MAN HITS PEDESTRIAN WITH CAR

A man has fled the scene after striking a pedestrian with his car in Ridleyton overnight.

At about 11pm on Thursday, police were called to Blight Street following reports a man was seriously injured by a Ford SUV.

The 32-year-old Flinders Park man was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment with non-life threatening injuries.

The Ford driver abandoned the car and fled the scene.

Police do not believe the incident was random, and urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19

MAN ARRESTED OVER GEL BLASTER INCIDENT

A man has been charged with threatening to kill and numerous firearms offences after he allegedly pointed a gun at police at Berri in the state’s Riverland.

Officers were travelling along McGregor Street, where they saw a man pointing what appeared to be a firearm at them about midnight on Wednesday.

They took cover and challenged the man who fled into a nearby home, where he went in and out several times as police tried to negotiate with him.

The Berri man, 35, left the house without his gun a short time later and was arrested. No one was injured in the incident.

Police said they searched the man’s home and found a gel blaster, house breaking implements and drug paraphernalia.

The man was taken to hospital for assessment before being charged with two aggravated counts of threatening to kill or endanger life, one count of possessing a firearm without a licence, one count of possessing an unregistered firearm and contravening a prohibition order.

He appeared by video-link in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Thursday, when Magistrate Derek Sprod granted the man bail to face court again in February.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 18

SMITHFIELD SERVO ROBBED AT KNIFEPOINT

Police are hunting the suspect of a violent robbery at a Smithfield service station on Wednesday morning.

A man entered a service station on Main North Road around 6.15am and threatened the attendant with a knife before jumping the counter and stealing cash and cigarettes.

The suspect was last seen running across Main North Road towards Blakeview. He was wearing a grey hooded jumper and a mask.

Police are searching the area for the suspect and ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

TEENAGER ARRESTED AFTER CBD BREAK-IN

A teenager has been arrested after police say an the occupant of a CBD unit woke to find him in her home.

The 27-year-old victim who lives on Grote Street, woke to find the male inside her home around 2.30am Wednesday. The suspect allegedly took the woman’s bag before leaving the premises. The woman was not injured in the incident.

Police tracked the suspect, a 16-year-old Glandore boy on North Terrace and arrested him at 5am, with the help of security camera operators.

The teenager was breaching his bail conditions and in possession of a knife. He was charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass, theft, carrying an offensive weapon and breaching bail. He was refused bail to appear in the Adelaide Youth Court today.

FAMILY ESCAPES PORT WILLUNGA BLAZE

Three people have escaped without injuries from a blaze that destroyed a home at Port Willunga overnight.

Fire crews fought the fire that was sparked in the front room of a house around midnight Wednesday on Desoto Drive.

The fire had spread to the roof of the home causing it to collapse.

Neighbours were evacuated from their homes as a precaution but fire crews contained the flames to a single home.

The blaze caused $200,000 in damage and completely destroyed the home.

Fire crews attended the scene this morning to determine the cause of the blaze.

ARSON AT RIDLEYTON

Police say a car fire at Ridleyton was deliberately lit and are asking witnesses to contact them with information on the suspects.

The car was reported on fire on Blight Street around 8.45pm Tuesday.

Fire crews contained the blaze but police say it was deliberately lit.

Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area are asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 17

TRUCKIE LEADS POLICE ON PURSUIT

A truck driver attempting to enter SA from Victoria has been arrested after leading police on a low speed pursuit.

The 26-year-old Victorian man tried to enter the state at the Bordertown checkpoint at around 12.30am Tuesday morning, and was refused entry.

A few hours later, about 2.50am, police spotted the truck travelling through Tailem Bend. The truck was stopped, and police said they would escort him back to the border.

The man allegedly then sped away along the Dukes Highway towards Coonalpyn.

Police followed the truck through Ki Ki and Coonalpyn before his driving became erratic and the pursuit was terminated.

The truck was spotted again travelling through Tintinara later on.

Police attempted to spike the vehicle north of Keith, but the man avoided the trap and turned onto the Riddoch Highway.

At around 5.50am, the truck was successfully spiked on the Riddoch Highway near Mount Monster and the man was arrested.

The man is expected to be charged with a number of traffic offences and breaching a COVID-19 direction. He will be refused bail and appear in Court on Tuesday afternoon.

The truck was towed from the scene and impounded.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16

WHEELBARROW THIEF CAUGHT

A man was arrested in Port Pirie on Monday morning allegedly carrying housebreaking tools in a wheelbarrow.

Police were patrolling the Port Pirie West area after numerous reports of break-ins before seeing a man pushing a wheelbarrow down the street.

The man was allegedly found to be carrying implements used during a house break-in, as well as other tools such as wire cutters and pliers.

The 38-year-old was charged with unlawful possession and possessing housebreaking implements.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon.

DRINK DRIVER BLOWS FIVE TIMES OVER

A drink-driver was caught at more than five times the legal limit on Sunday afternoon.

The 61-year-old St Agnes woman was travelling towards Modbury when she mounted a kerb, requiring assistance to push the car back on to the road.

Police noticed the woman needed help to get out of her Toyota Camry and breathalysed her.

She returned a reading of 0.273 and received an instant 12-month loss of license.

Her vehicle was also impounded for 28 days.

She will be summonsed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court at a later date.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 15

ARMED MEN ATTEMPT TO ROB PIZZA SHOP

Police are hunting suspects after an attempted robbery at a southern suburbs pizza shop overnight, where two men armed with a knife and hammer threatened staff and customers.

Around 1.15am Sunday, two men entered the Pizza Blue store on Bains Road at Morphett Vale armed with the weapons and began threatening people inside the shop. They were chased out of the store empty-handed, and ran off leaving behind a motorcycle.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Police searched the area but could not find the suspects.

One suspect is described as being 180cm tall, a slim build, wearing a full face bike helmet, black jacket and gloves. The second suspect is described as being caucasian, 177cm tall, slim build wearing a grey hoodie.

Police examined the motorbike before returning it to its owner as it was stolen from Noarlunga on Saturday night.

A nearby store chicken shop owner from the same block of shops, Sue Cowin, said her store was closed by the time the incident occurred.

Ms Cowin said all the shops on the block including the laundromat had been broken into at least once in recent years.

“New owners (of the building) have put more cameras and lights up which is good,” Ms Cowin said.

L-PLATER FINED FOR SERIES OF OFFENCES

A learner driver has been slapped with a huge fine after police say he broke just about every rule in the book in North Adelaide on Sunday morning.

A Holden Astra was stopped on Montefiore Rd around 5.30am for a random breath test.

The 18-year-old driver from Walkerville only had a learner’s permit, and did not have an accompanying driver with him. He was not displaying L-plates on the vehicle and could not produce his permit on demand.

When breath-tested he returned a blood alcohol limit of 0.059 – learner drivers are not allowed to drive with any alcohol in their system.

To top it all off, the teenager allegedly tested positive to a combination of drugs.

He was fined $3459 and will face “several periods” of licence disqualification.

ILLEGAL FIREARMS SEIZED AFTER TIP-OFF

A man has been arrested after police seized a number of firearms from his property after an anonymous tip-off.

A Whyalla Playford address was searched on Friday, where police located three rifles, a shotgun, four handguns and ammunition. All were stored insecurely, and were seized.

Three of the firearms were unregistered.

A 45-year-old Whyalla Playford man was arrested and charged with firearms offences, including possessing unregistered firearms and having unsecured firearms and ammunition.

He was refused bail to appear in Whyalla Magistrates Court on Monday.

DRINK DRIVER CAUGHT WITH THREE UNRESTRAINED CHILDREN

A drink driver has been caught driving with three unrestrained young children in her car, including one sitting on her lap.

Police saw the woman driving on McMorron Street at Millicent around 6.45pm Saturday with an unrestrained child on her lap.

She was drinking alcoholic cider and recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.081, which is more than the legal blood alcohol limit of 0.05.

The 33-year-old Millicent woman was issued a six-month instant loss of licence and her vehicle was impounded for 28 days.

She was charged with drink driving with children under 16 in the car and having an unrestrained child under 16 in the car. She will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

STABBING AT TORRENSVILLE

Two people have been arrested after a man was stabbed multiple times in a laneway at Torrensville, leaving him fighting for life in hospital.

A fight broke out among a group of people in the laneway of a private residence near the Abyssinian Bar and Restaurant on Henley Beach Road about 5.20pm on Saturday.

Police found a man, 32, with multiple stab wounds to his torso and arms.

His attackers drove off before police arrived but officers later attended a Richmond address and arrested a 42-year-old Pennington man. A 39-year-old Cowandilla man was also arrested at his home address.
