SA Police has launched an investigation into a Parafield Gardens home invasion resulting in serious injuries

SA Police has announced a taskforce is investigating a terrifying home invasion in Parafield Gardens – and whether it’s related to other violent incidents in the area.

SA Police have revealed Operation Meld officers are investigating the recent spate of home invasions across the state – typically perpetrated by a group of machete-wielding men.

This includes a recent break-in by four men.at Parafield Gardens on Tuesday, which occurred about 8.20pm,

Their victim, a 30-year-old man, suffered injuries to the head and torso which were likely inflicted with a knife or a machete, and possibly a small handgun.

He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the attackers also damaged a vehicle before leaving the scene.

Assistant Commissioner Scott Duval said investigations led them to believe that the Parafield Gardens “attack was targeted” and “police don’t believe the public are in any imminent risk from these suspects”.

Mr Duval also revealed that the residents of the Parafield Gardens home were known to police.

“Police are currently investigating what the motive was, and further inquiries are being conducted with the occupants of the house as part of the ongoing investigation,” Mr Duval said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, witnesses who saw the perpetrators of the attack reported the males to be wearing balaclavas and gloves. They are said to be of Aboriginal appearance.

This investigation has been revealed following another “unrelated incident” that occurred at Gulfview Heights on Wednesday morning which resulted in three people being taken to hospital, – two of which were injured with edged weapons.

The four suspects were described as males in their late teens to early twenties. It is believed one of the attackers might have suffered a back and leg injury after entering into an altercation with one of the house occupants.

The eight perpetrators across both these attacks are still at large.

This comes after it was confirmed Operation Meld was investigating an Eyre and Kilburn home invasions from the end of last month where offenders were wielding machetes.

Additionally, Mr Duval said that in the last week alone, Operation Meld investigators have arrested at least 10 men – aged between 15 and 26 – for various offences.

In all these cases police will allege the men to be gang members or associates of the Killa Block Squad (KBS) or 051.

Mr Duval said authorities will “continue to put considerable pressure on these gang members and their associates to disrupt their criminal activity” as the conflict between the two youth group seems to be renewed.

“There are period in time when conflict is heightened,” he said. “It would appear at the moment we have a rise in that type of offending between these groups.”

However, Mr Duval said it was difficult to establish what is currently motivating the rivalry between the two youth gangs.
