Machete-wielding men break into Nelson St, Kilburn home and threaten occupants, trash cars

A teenage boy living at a northern suburbs home targeted by a gang of 10-15 machete-wielding people has recalled the terror as they went on a rampage through the property.

A teenage boy living at a northern suburbs home targeted by a gang of 10-15 machete-wielding people has recalled the terror as they went on a rampage through the property.

The armed group broke into the Nelson St, Kilburn home just after 1.30am on Sunday and threatened those inside with machetes before trashing cars in the driveway.

No one was injured in the incident but the group left a trail of destruction, damaging windows and doors inside the home.

A 13-year-old boy believes the armed group were members of a gang called KBS, who were after his 16-year-old brother because he is friends with people from a rival gang.

He said his brother was not part of any gang but used to hang out with some members from KBS as friends.

The Advertiser does not suggest anyone at the home has engaged in any wrongdoing or is involved in any criminal or gang activities.

“Because my brother hangs out with some people, I think, from the other gang – 051 – and because they don’t like each other, that’s why they came to my brother,” he said.

He said the rival gangs – 051 and KBS – “really hate each other”.

“They keep getting revenge on each other,” he said.

Around 10 to 15 people converged on the home he shares with his parents and siblings on Sunday morning, he said.

CCTV footage seen by The Advertiser shows at least two cars driving by several times before at least one figure can be seen running to the front of the house.

The boy said a number of people ran in breaking the side door and windows.

The windows of three vehicles in the driveway were also shattered.

The boy told The Advertiser he was woken up by banging on the door of his bedroom, which he shares with his 16-year-old brother who they believe was the target of the attack.

“My brother was holding the door to stop the door (opening) and then I woke up from the shouting,” he said.

He said a machete went through the door several times, nearly stabbing him in the stomach at one point and then almost going through his brother’s head.

“I just see a machete go through, it nearly hit my brother’s head,” he said.

He said one of the men also waved a machete in his mother’s face.

When his dad started yelling “police”, the group ran out of the house and jumped into the waiting cars.

He now fears the group will return to try and hurt his brother.

“I’m 80 per cent sure they gonna come back, because they try to just stab my brother,” he said.

They also caused extensive damage to three cars in the driveway before they left.

Police are investigating the incident, including links to Operation Meld, which aims to combat the criminal activities of feuding youth gangs.

One neighbour, who asked to remain anonymous, told The Advertiser that he and his family were woken up by the noise in the early hours of the morning.

He said his father, who was awake before the incident, heard the group coming and saw two red cars parked nearby.

“He heard them come in, park the car and saw a bunch of them get out, put on masks and everything. They had something similar to machete. They ran … and started breaking something.

“We couldn’t see it but we did hear a lot of noises. There was a lot of shouting and screaming going on.”

The man said his father then saw the group running back to their cars and driving off.

He added it was “scary” just thinking about the incident.

Fellow neighbour Laksh Bains, who lives on a perpendicular street, said he was concerned about the violence in the area.

He added that he regularly sees police attending incidents there.

“I’ve actually stopped an incident previously, a break in of a car,” he said.

Mr Bains added that there was often yelling and people “that do not seem so nice” lingering around.

He said he was now looking at taking additional security measures, including changing his driving route.

The overnight incident is not believed to be a random one.

It comes just days after a 16-year-old boy was injured in a home invasion machete attack at Eyre in Adelaide’s north.
