A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man who failed to appear in court after he allegedly rammed a garage door leading into Parliament House.
Joel Paul Sellar failed to appear in court on Tuesday after he was arrested in November over the security breach.
Police allege Mr Sellar, 43, drove a black Audi sedan into the external roller door leading into the secure carpark about 4.45pm on November 14.
It is further alleged the man drove through and parked his car before attempting to enter the building through the basement and approaching several employees in an attempt to gain access.
The man then allegedly walked away before returning to the building shortly after 11pm and re-entering the carpark.
The man was detained until it was deemed that he and the car did not pose an “immediate risk” and was subsequently charged with property damage.
Speaker of the House of Assembly Dan Cregan said protective services officers then approached the man before police arrived, arresting him at the scene.
Mr Cregan said police had advised the dual incidents were not considered “an intentional attack on Parliament House” – but said an immediate security review of procedures would be undertaken.
