The man charged with murdering nursing student Jasmeen Kaur before burying her body in a shallow grave has been ordered to stand trial, a court has heard.

The man charged with murdering Adelaide nursing student Jasmeen Kaur and burying her body in a shallow grave has been ordered to stand trial.

Tarikjot Singh, 21, of Kurralta Park entered a not guilty plea to a charge of murder via his lawyer in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

He was remanded in custody to next appear in the Supreme Court in June for arraignment ahead of a future trial.

Mr Singh’s identity was initially suppressed at his first court appearance a year ago to aid the police investigation but the suppression lapsed after 30 days.

Mr Singh allegedly stalked Ms Kaur, who was known to him, for weeks before he abducted her from her workplace at Southern Cross Aged Care home, North Plympton, as she finished a shift about 10pm on March 5, 2021.

Police allege the car he was driving, a blue Holden Commodore, was detected by multiple cameras heading north later that night.

Ms Kaur’s body was found in a shallow grave at Moralana Creek, about 40km north of Hawker in the Flinders Ranges.

Mr Singh allegedly led police to the makeshift gravesite on March 7, 2021.

Ms Kaur lived with her aunt, uncle and a cousin at Flinders Park. After her death, they described the 21-year-old as caring and helpful and said she was in her final year of study to become a registered nurse.

In October, her grief stricken family travelled to the alleged burial site to pay respects to Ms Kaur on what would have been her 22nd birthday.

They placed flowers, balloons, a cake and chicken nuggets – her favourite food – at the burial site.
