The identity of the man charged with murdering Jasmeen Kaur and burying her body in a shallow grave can be revealed after a court imposed suppression on his identity lapsed.
Tarikjot Singh, 20, of Kurralta Park was charged with Ms Kaur’s murder, which is alleged to have occurred at “Parachilna or other places” after her disappearance on March 5.
Police asked a suppression be imposed on his identity at his first court appearance via video to the Port Augusta Magistrates Court on March 9 because, they said, revealing it could hinder the ongoing investigation.
The suppression order was imposed for 30 days and expired on Thursday.
Singh, who was known to Ms Kaur, allegedly stalked her for weeks before he abducted her from her workplace at Southern Cross Aged Care home, North Plympton, as she finished her shift about 10pm on March 5.
The car he was driving, a blue 2009 Holden Commodore, which police said he has borrowed from a friend for the night, was detected by multiple cameras heading north later that night.
Her body was found in a shallow grave at Moralana Creek, about 40km north of Hawker.
Parachilna is about 60km further north of that location.
Singh allegedly led police to the burial site on March 7 while denying having anything to do with her death. Her body was exhumed from the site the following day.
Some of Ms Kaur’s belongings, including her identification and black slip on shoes, were later found in a bin at Kanyaka Ruins, between Quorn and Hawker.
Ms Kaur lived with her aunt, uncle and cousin at Flinders Park.
After her death, they described the 21-year-old as caring and helpful and said she was in her final year of study to become a registered nurse.
Last week Ms Kaur’s family and friends bid their final farewells at a funeral service before her body will be returned to her mother and twin siblings in India.
Singh will next face court in December.
